Closed-Head Injuries

Closed Head Injuries

A closed head injury is a trauma-induced injury to the brain, as a result of a blow to the head or sudden violent motion, causing the brain to knock against the skull. Closed head injuries frequently occur after traffic accidents, falls and assaults. A closed head injury is also common in accidents involving walking pedestrians and anyone in a serious bicycle accident, including children.

Following surgery and medication, many patients with severe closed head injuries require therapy to regain basic motor and cognitive skills. Depending on the severity of the head injury, patients may struggle with balance, walking, speaking, performing daily tasks, self care, loss of memory and emotional trauma.

Closed head injury patients, typically, begin their therapy during their admittance in the hospital, until they are ready for outpatient therapy continuance. PRI's skilled Closed Head Therapy Specialists work closely with Neuropsychologists, attending physicians, case managers, and family members to help their patients manage and regain their lost skills.
