Amputations/Paralysis

Physical Therapy Services for Paralysis

Preferred Rehabilitation provides specialized Amputation & Paralysis Programs for their patients.

Losing the ability to feel or move a body part, due to a spinal cord injury, disease or illness, may be devastating to a patient and their family. PRI's expansive Paralysis Program offers over 30 years of experience in treating these conditions, whether catastrophic or temporary.

PRI's Paralysis Therapy Program offers both Passive and Active Rehabilitation, depending on the nature of your injury. Passive rehabilitative exercise involves, either the patient providing self assistance, or receiving guided assistance through range of motions, without exerting any effort. Passive rehabilitative exercise is suitable for nearly all stroke survivors, but especially beneficial for those with extensive or limited active movement.

We Provide Outpatient Amputation Rehabilitation

The loss or removal of a limb is a life changing experience, affecting your mobility, work duties, interaction with others, while maintaining your independence. The continuance of pain, phantom limb sensations, and emotional trauma can complicate recovery. The ultimate goal of rehabilitation, after limb loss, is to ambulate successfully, with or without the use of a prosthesis, and to return to a high level of social reintegration. Prosthetic rehabilitation is a complex task that requires input from an experienced, multi-disciplinary rehabilitation team like ours.

The Process

  • Pre-Operative Consultation and Rehabilitation
  • Surgery
  • Pre-Prosthetic Strengthening & Flexibility Training
